How Much Data Your Mac Used, Day by Day

Activity Monitor's Network tab resets every restart, and macOS has no monthly total. On a phone hotspot or a capped plan that's the number you actually need. Notchy's Network Traffic History keeps it — downloads and uploads, totalled by day, week, month and year.

Four totals at a glance

Today, this week, this month and this year, each split into download and upload, in Settings → Connectivity — next to the live throughput Notchy already shows.

Up to a year, on your Mac

Daily totals are kept for up to a year in a small local file. Clear it with one button whenever you like; turning the feature off stops recording.

Honest about gaps

Time the Mac spends asleep, or between samples, is left out instead of guessed — and Notchy tells you how many minutes it actually observed, so a total is never padded.

Totals, not surveillance

Only byte counts from the physical network interfaces are recorded. No websites, addresses, Wi-Fi names, hosts or packets are saved, and nothing leaves the Mac.

Mac Data Usage Monitor — FAQ

How do I see how much data my Mac has used?

macOS only shows totals since the last restart, in Activity Monitor → Network. With Notchy, turn on Network Traffic History in Settings → Connectivity and it keeps day, week, month and year totals from then on.

Does it show data usage per app?

No — Notchy records totals for the whole Mac, not per app or per website. For a per-app breakdown, Activity Monitor's Network tab or a dedicated firewall such as Little Snitch is the right tool.

Can it warn me before I hit a data cap?

Not yet. It keeps totals so you can check them; it doesn't set a limit or alert you. Bandwidth+ is a focused free option if you need per-interface monthly tracking.

Does it record history before I turn it on?

No. macOS keeps no history to import, so the totals start the moment you switch the feature on.

Does it slow my Mac or drain battery?

No. It reads two interface counters on a slow timer, parks while the Mac sleeps, and writes one small file of daily totals.

When does Network Traffic History arrive?

It's coming in Notchy 1.0.201. Like every new option, it starts off.
