Installing with Homebrew

Notchy ships through a personal Homebrew tap at vishvavariya/homebrew-notchy. One command handles tap + install:

brew install --cask vishvavariya/notchy/notchy

Prefer two steps? Tap once, then install normally:

brew tap vishvavariya/notchy
brew install --cask notchy

Notchy self-updates via Sparkle, so it stays current automatically. You can also run brew upgrade --cask notchy at any time.

Getting started

  1. 1

Open the DMG and drag Notchy to Applications

The build is signed and notarised by Apple, so it launches without a Gatekeeper warning. Launch it from Applications or Spotlight.

  2. 2

Move your cursor to the notch

On a MacBook with a notch, hover it — the island expands. On a Mac without one, Notchy floats the same pill at the top of your display, so there is nothing to configure first.

  3. 3

Grant permissions only for what you use

Notchy asks for nothing up front. Each tab requests its own permission the first time you open it, and macOS shows the prompt then — Calendar for your next event, Reminders for the Reminders tab, Camera for the mirror, Microphone for the teleprompter, Bluetooth for AirPods battery, Contacts for caller ID. Skip a tab and it never asks.

  4. 4

    If a prompt never appears

macOS sometimes remembers an earlier answer and stays silent. Use “Ask me again” on the permission row — it clears the old answer so macOS can prompt once more, relaunching Notchy if that's needed to apply it.

  5. 5

Set what lives in the island

Open Settings from the notch to choose which tabs appear and in what order, set the expanded panel's width and height, and pop any tab out into its own menu-bar popover.

Every permission is optional and revocable in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Notchy has no account and sends nothing anywhere — see the privacy policy.

System Requirements

  • macOS 13 Ventura or later
  • Apple Silicon or Intel — one universal download
  • ~150 MB disk space
  • Works with or without a notch
