Dynamic Island for External Monitors

Work with a dual-monitor setup or a notchless Studio Display? You don't need a hardware camera notch to enjoy the Dynamic Island. Notchy renders as a high-fidelity floating pill on any external screen, handling music controls, timers, and clipboard history. 100% Free.

Setup on External Displays

  1. 1
    Download Notchy

Install the native Notchy macOS app. It runs on macOS 13 Ventura and newer, supporting Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.

  2. 2
    Configure Floating Pill Mode

Open settings. Since external monitors don't have hardware notches, Notchy automatically configures the Dynamic Island into a floating pill. You can adjust the width, height, and display offset.

  3. 3
    Position on secondary screens

Use the display selector in Notchy to pin the floating Dynamic Island to your main MacBook display, your external display, or span across both screens.

Floating Pill Mode: Notchless and Elegant

If Notchy doesn't detect a hardware screen notch cutout, it shifts layout modes automatically. The app creates a custom overlay pill directly underneath the menu bar.

It sits flush and static, blending into the menu bar background, then morphs organically on hover or music playback—just like the physical notch. You get the premium Dynamic Island experience even on Studio Displays, Pro Display XDRs, or third-party ultra-wide screens.

External Screen FAQ

Does Notchy work on external monitors without a notch?

Yes. If your display (like an Apple Studio Display, LG UltraFine, or standard external monitor) has no notch, Notchy switches into a 'Floating Pill' mode. It sits elegantly below your menu bar and expands fluidly when triggered.

Can I move the Dynamic Island to my second monitor?

Yes. In Notchy settings, you can select which monitor hosts the Dynamic Island. You can keep it on your MacBook screen, migrate it entirely to your external display, or run a floating instance on each screen.

Is there support for ultra-wide monitors?

Yes. Notchy's layout engine dynamically scales to any screen aspect ratio, including ultra-wide and super ultra-wide monitors (21:9, 32:9, etc.), centering the floating pill beautifully.
