New tabs
Search, Translate and Calculate From the Notch
Three typed tabs in Notchy: send a search to any engine, read foreign text in your language, and do quick sums — without switching apps.
Search without opening a tab first
Type a query in the notch and press return to open it in your browser. Nine engines built in — Google, DuckDuckGo, Bing, Perplexity, YouTube, GitHub, Wikipedia, Maps and Amazon — with shortcuts like "yt", "gh" and "map" to send one search somewhere else.
Your own engines, too
Add any site with a name and a URL. Custom engines join the chips, the bangs and ⌘1–9 alongside the built-ins. A pasted link opens directly instead of being searched for.
Translate as you type
Paste anything foreign and read it in your language. The source language is detected for you, the translation updates while you type, and Copy puts the result on the clipboard.
A calculator you type into
No keypad: the answer updates as you go, return commits and copies it, and the lines you ran before are still there next time you open the notch.

Quick Search & Translate — FAQ
How do I save a video from a link on Mac?
Paste the link into Notchy's Quick Search and save the file instead of opening the page — best quality, a smaller copy, or audio only. Notchy uses the open-source yt-dlp downloader and fetches the official build for you the first time. Only download videos you have the right to save.
Which translation service does Notchy use?
Google Translate's public endpoints, so translation needs an internet connection. If Google throttles a request, Notchy tries other routes and backs off, and tells you why when it can't translate.
Can I add my own search engine?
Yes, since 1.0.142. Give it a name and a URL and it becomes a chip, a bang and a ⌘1–9 shortcut like the built-in engines.
Is this a replacement for Easydict or Soulver?
Partly. For quick lookups from the notch, yes. Easydict offers many more translation services, OCR translation and dictionaries, and Soulver is a full notepad calculator with variables, units and live currency — Notchy's tabs are deliberately lighter.
Are these features free?
Yes. Quick Search, Translate and Calculator arrived in Notchy 1.0.141 and are free, like the rest of the app.
