How do I change playback speed for videos in Chrome or Safari from Notchy?

Turn on “Long-Form Controls” in Settings → Now Playing, then click Enable on “Speed Control in Browsers”. Browsers need “Allow JavaScript from Apple Events” switched on, and Notchy flips it for the browsers you have open.

Step by step

  1. Open the browser you watch in, so Notchy can find it.
  2. Settings → Now Playing → turn on “Long-Form Controls”.
  3. On “Speed Control in Browsers”, click Enable and approve the Automation prompt.
  4. Start a video — the speed chip (1×–2×) appears once Notchy confirms it can read the rate back.

Good to know

The Enable button covers Chrome, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi, Chromium and Safari. If Safari's Develop menu is hidden, turn the switch on by hand: Safari → Settings → Advanced → “Show features for web developers”, then Develop → “Allow JavaScript from Apple Events”.

If the menu item is greyed out, your browser is managed by an organization policy that blocks it.

Showing what's playing doesn't need any of this — only changing the speed does.
