How do I connect Spotify to Notchy for likes, shuffle and playlists?

Playback, artwork and controls work with Spotify out of the box. For ♥ Like, shuffle, repeat and Add to Playlist, connect your account once: create a free app on the Spotify developer dashboard and paste its Client ID into Notchy. No password or client secret is ever entered.

Step by step

  1. Open Settings → Now Playing and find Spotify in the music apps list.
  2. Follow “Create a free app on Spotify” to open the Spotify developer dashboard and create an app.
  3. Paste http://127.0.0.1:8888/callback as the app's Redirect URI.
  4. Copy the app's Client ID (32 letters and numbers) and paste it into Notchy, then choose Connect.

Good to know

The login uses PKCE, so there is no client secret, and the refresh token is kept in your macOS Keychain.

“Couldn't open the loopback listener on port 8888” means another app is using that port — quit it and try again.

If shuffle, repeat or playlists stop working after an update, the button shows “Reconnect” — the newer features need a fresh sign-in.
