A free Rocket Alternative for emoji
Rocket, by Matthew Palmer, brings Slack-style emoji to the whole Mac: type a colon and a name — :thumbsup: — in any text field and pick from the autocomplete. The free version covers that, skin tones and themes; Rocket Pro, $10 once, adds a full browse-and-search window, GIFs, images and memes, custom shortcuts and text-expansion snippets. Notchy's Emoji tab, new in 1.0.172, is a different shape: search in the notch, press Return, and the emoji lands where you were typing.

Why not just use ⌃⌘Space?
