Knock alternative — FAQ
Is Notchy a free Knock alternative?
Yes. Knocking the chassis to trigger an action is built into Notchy's free download, alongside a trackpad tap and a modifier double-tap. There is no separate purchase for the gesture.
Does it use the same accelerometer trick?
It reads the same chassis accelerometer Apple Silicon laptops expose, watching for the sharp double impact of a knock while ignoring ordinary movement. Impact sensitivity is adjustable between light, medium and firm.
What if my Mac has no usable accelerometer?
Notchy falls back automatically. A Force Touch trackpad tap without a click works on modern laptops, and a double-tap of a bare Control, Option, Command or Shift key works on every Mac — desktops with external keyboards included.
What can the gesture trigger?
