DropNotch alternative: the drop shelf, plus the rest
DropNotch makes the notch a drop zone that hands files to AirDrop, Mail or Messages — free, and deliberately nothing else. Notchy gives you that shelf free too, and the media, clipboard, timers and stats around it.

On Monterey, DropNotch wins
DropNotch goes back to macOS 12, one release further than Notchy. If your Mac is still on Monterey and you cannot move, that settles it — no comparison table required.
DropNotch and NotchDrop are not the same app
The names are one syllable apart and both are free drop shelves. If you are comparing, our NotchDrop page covers the other one.
A shelf that also catches screenshots
Notchy's drop shelf holds dragged files and automatically catches new screenshots, so they stop piling up on the desktop. From there they AirDrop straight out.
One notch, one app
Two apps both treating the notch as a drop target will fight over the drag. If you want files there and anything else there, it is simpler to have one app doing both.

Notchy vs DropNotch — FAQ
Is DropNotch free?
Yes, DropNotch is free. Notchy is free too. The difference is scope: DropNotch turns the notch into a drop zone and stops there, while Notchy makes the drop shelf one tool among 50+.
DropNotch or NotchDrop — which is which?
Two different apps with nearly the same name. DropNotch is the file drop zone that hands files to AirDrop, Mail, Messages or the bin. NotchDrop is a separate open-source shelf project. Both are free, and both do less than a full notch app.
What macOS does DropNotch need?
DropNotch runs on macOS Monterey 12.0 or newer, which is further back than most notch apps reach. Notchy starts at macOS 13 Ventura — so on a Monterey Mac, DropNotch is the one that works.
Does DropNotch work on a Mac without a notch?
Yes, though its own description notes it looks and feels best on a MacBook. Notchy draws a proper floating island on notch-less Macs and external monitors, so the experience is designed for that case rather than tolerated.
Can Notchy AirDrop from the notch too?
Yes. Drag a file to the notch and Notchy holds it on a shelf you can AirDrop from, drop into another app, or clear — plus it keeps screenshots there automatically.
Should I use both?
There is no need, and running two apps that both claim the notch as a drop target will make dragging unpredictable. Pick whichever matches how much you want the notch doing.
