For microphone-activation alerts, OverSight is still the tool: Notchy dropped its automatic mic-in-use island in version 1.0.166 and now offers a one-click mic mute instead.
How does Notchy detect camera and mic activity?
For the camera, the same way OverSight does: the system-level CoreMediaIO device-activity property rather than watching specific apps, so any process opening the camera triggers Camera Guard. Notchy does not currently alert on microphone activation.
Should I still use OverSight for security-critical monitoring?
