SnipDo for Mac — the free option

SnipDo is a free text menu for Windows: select text in any program and a bar pops up with copy, paste, search, spelling, a dictionary and an extension store. Its own site says it was inspired by PopClip — and points Mac users there, because SnipDo has never shipped for macOS. If you've moved from Windows to a Mac and miss it, Notchy's Text Actions bar is the free way to get the same reflex back.

Why use Notchy instead of SnipDo?

  • The same select-and-act reflex

Select text in any Mac app and a small bar appears above it with Copy, Search, Look Up and Translate — no shortcut, no right-click menu.

  • Free, like SnipDo

SnipDo is free on the Microsoft Store. Notchy is free on the Mac, with no trial or action limit.

  • Smart buttons for links and numbers

A selected link gets Open Link with tracking parameters stripped, an email address gets New Email, a phone number gets Call, and a sum gets Copy Result.

  • Where SnipDo is better

SnipDo has an extension store, a custom extension builder, an instant-paste menu and a per-app exclusion list. Notchy's bar has a fixed set of actions and no extensions.

The honest verdict on SnipDo

SnipDo can't follow you to a Mac. PopClip is the deep, paid replacement; Notchy is the free one, built into an app that also runs your notch.

SnipDo alternative — FAQ

Is SnipDo available for Mac?

No. SnipDo is Windows-only, and its developers recommend PopClip for macOS users.

What's the free SnipDo equivalent on Mac?

Notchy's Text Actions (from 1.0.198) is free and shows a bar over any selection. PopClip is the closer match in depth, with extensions, but it's a paid app after a 250-action trial.

How do I turn the bar on in Notchy?

Settings → Pointer → Text → Text Actions. It reads the selection through Accessibility, so macOS asks for that permission once.

Can I add my own actions like SnipDo extensions?

No. Notchy's bar has Copy, Search, Look Up, Translate and the smart link/email/phone/sum buttons. Search uses whichever engine you set in Quick Search, including custom ones.

Does it work in every app?

In any app that exposes its selection through macOS Accessibility, which is most of them. It stays out of password fields and ignores drags on buttons and window title bars.
