How do I get a floating music player above my windows?

Turn on “Floating Player” in Settings → Home → Desktop Widgets. Now Playing appears in a small player that floats above your windows — drag it anywhere. Unlike the desktop widgets, which sit on the wallpaper, it stays on top.

Step by step

  1. Open Settings → Home and switch on “Floating Player”.
  2. Drag the player wherever you want it. It first appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  3. Change its size with ⌘1 (Mini Player), ⌘2 (Player), ⌘3 (Player with Lyrics) or ⌘4 (Player with Artwork).

Good to know

Double-click the cover to switch between Player and Player with Lyrics. From the mini player or the artwork player, it goes back to Player.

A player in the lower half of the screen grows upward when it changes size, so it never runs off the bottom.

It plays whatever Now Playing shows — if nothing appears, see why music isn't showing.
